There was a time when human birth
Was normally by the home hearth
But times have changed
It’s a little deranged
For normal is now rather dearth.
There was a call to see ‘normal birth’ redefined
To reflect the medicalisation entwined
For normal these days
Is a medical haze
With the mother positioned supine.
So now we say ‘physiological’ instead
And women birth on the bed
Legs in the air
Drugs everywhere
And anticipated with dread
Today normal birth means intervention
And natural does not get a mention
Do as your told
Don’t be too bold
For this is the new convention.
